Some places awaken your heart, but rarely do they awaken both. I have just arrived at a destination where dreams feel unnecessary, even forgotten. Because what greets you here is the superlative of a dream— something more vivid, soulful, and exquisitely alive. The journey itself felt like a gentle unveiling. Winding through grand mountain roads and with the sea splashed beside us, waves murmuring their own little welcome, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort appeared as if it were conjured straight out of a fairy tale, neither a resort nor a destination but a land carved out by time and blessed by beauty.

The resort evokes colonial elegance with a modern soul. It is grand but never imposing—warm, personal, poetic. Every detail whis persintention. The culinary journey commences in Citron, another of its beautiful restaurants, offering breathtaking views high above the sea. Playful circular dining pods floating high next to the sky offer sweeping panoramas of the green Son Tra Peninsula. Vietnamese food here is treated with deference but not pretension. From silky bánh cuốn to grilled seafood kissed with lemongrass, every bite is an example of home and Michelin- level artistry. On top of the resort is La Maison 1888, home to Vietnam’s first Michelin-starred chef. This exquisite French fine-dining retreat takes up residence in a beautiful colonial mansion and offers meals boasting stories as rich as their taste. Barefoot, on the other hand, presents rustic Italian comfort along the beach— wood-fired pizzas, home-made pastas, and seafood grilled to perfection, best savored barefoot under the warm luminescence of sunset.

Even the toilets at the resort are reminiscent of a movie set! With dark black and mustard-hued tones, low- key lighting, and designer finishes, they look like the Indiana Jones film sets— something adventurous, stylish, but luxurious all at once. No wonder! They were designed by none other than Bill Bensley, whose projects are a wondrous balance of practicality, whimsy, and an honest regard for nature. Here I sit in my ocean view room, an oasis of rich warm woods and neutral fabrics that strikes a balance between elegant and understated. Not flashy, but classic. Every single texture coaxing one into inhaling just a little more. And then there’s the balcony, where the real fun begins as you approach it.
