My best friend Bum went under the knife today
An excruciating day, I would say.
We didn’t know quite what to expect,
Only prayed the surgery would be perfect.
But God is gracious, vast and wide,
He turned six into four on that surgical ride.
A sextuple bypass became a quadruple instead
A mercy, a miracle, a thread not yet shed.
We learn the most when shadows near,
When love is loud and laced with fear.
The thought of loss brings truth so clear What matters most is always here.
Thanks to his doctor angels on earth,
Like Dra Leni and Dr Mon and the others who shone,
Their courage a light we could lean upon.
They held his hand when he needed it most,
They pacified us when a little worry was tall,
And stood by our side through it all.
So now Bum beats with a quiet flame,
Each thump no longer quite the same.
Life rewrites what once fell apart
Hope rebuilt in a braver heart
