Zambia beckons

Every journey has a story. I Visit Zambia today. There is usually nothing that beats the eager anticipation of visiting a destination for the very first time. However, there are some exemptions to the rule. There are some places that leave an indelible mark in your heart, hence this infectious yearning to return. Once this desire is fulfilled, a certain spot in our heart is satisfied. It’s like being reconnected with a long-lost loved one or rekindling an old flame that has become finer with age and familiarity. Like true love that is just waiting around the bend, it never really goes away, but simply stays where we once left them no matter how much we have missed them.

The greatest view of the Victoria Falls and the winding gorges of the mighty Zambezi River is from the air. The best time to fly is when the spray is highest rom April to June, when the sheer volume of the water creates spectacular rainbows and moonbows. This lunar phenomenon is as rare as the flawless diamond.A sight of the glorious Victoria Falls in Zambia is one moment of grace when you truly believe there are perfect moments that make your entire life worth living and reliving. Imagine being at the edge of the largest single curtain of falling water on earth measuring 1,708 meters wide with an average depth of 100 meters. Twice the size of the Niagara Falls and with greater water flow than the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, it is known as “The Smoke that Thunders.”

Zambia’s rich cultural mosaic—with over 72 languages spoken across the country—manifests itself in the warm hospitality of its people. Add to that its vast beauty, not forgetting the Victoria Falls—one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, and the country can be a traveler’s paradise. Uncovered gems—such as the myriad of hidden waterfalls dotted across the landscape—can be found with some perseverance. From rolling hills to sparkling fat sapphire lakes and sprawling national parks, Zambia’s terrain is as diverse as the people that inhabit it. With something for every traveller, whether the more well-heeled looking for a relaxing resort or an independent traveler looking for some adventure, Zambia is sure to provide some absorbing and exciting experiences. Imagine waking up at the crack of dawn to the sound of a multitude of birds and game. Your guide leads you deep into the heart of the bush as you spot the spoor of a lion that passed the night before, or elephant tracks, a herd of 10 or more—where are they now? As you move on, you hear the crackle of leaves and there they are, grazing under a grove of sausage trees.

Zambia is one of the few countries left in Africa able to offer this unique experience. Get wined and dined and pampered in luxurious bush style and head out early mornings and late afternoons for some spectacular game viewing from the comfort of a well- padded open vehicle. Bungee jumping off the bridge, micro-lighting over the Victoria Falls, abseiling down the gorges, horse riding in the forests, fishing on the upper Zambezi, rafting downstream, or a combination of all —there is no shortage of fun-filled activities in Livingstone. For an unrivalled view of the Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River rapids, just above and below the fall, take to the air in a helicopter or light-wing aircraft. Or even more exhilarating, take a micro- light flight where the only thing between you and the falls is a seat. For stomach-churning thrills, zoom down the Zambezi in a sleek and powerful jet boat, ducking and spinning between the rocks. At 111 meters, the bungee jump off Victoria Falls Bridge on the Zambezi River is one of the highest commercial bungee jumps in the world. The scenery of the gorge and Zambezi River with Victoria Falls as a backdrop makes the jump even more breathtaking. Leap off a 70-meter cliff on the end of a rope and, safely harnessed, of course, abseil, facing up or down or high wire, which means racing along a cable on a pulley wheel. Zambia satisfies the heart with its awe-inspiring natural wonders.
